Mighty Spidy

"Excellent Game"

submission: Mighty Spidy
date: April 2, 2008

Cool:
Excellent Graphics. Unique game.

Improvements/Critique:
I think that the enemies are too terrestrial. Maybe there can be more variety on the movement of the different insects.

I would say that the web slinging might need improvement. The game play defaults so that the spider will always climb towards the center of the swing. I think the game could be more fun and add complexity if you were to allow the user to choose whether the spider should climb or keep the length the same through the swing.

I think that maybe the time limit can be replaced by a silk meter or a fixed amount of webbing through the game. Or maybe both.

Some suggestions for additions:
I saw that you had a butterfly power up. Maybe you can add some web power ups too, like creating a balloon, or building a web between points to lure some of the enemies into a trap. If you want to implement the silk meter idea, maybe you can correspond catching flies to fill up a portion of the meter. Also, maybe more variety of the flies. (maybe ants too, or other insects) Lastly, maybe you can have the spider grow from a baby spidy to an adult one throughout the stages and maybe add attributes to its abilities. (This wouldn't go with the style of the this game though).

Even with all of these suggestions, your game here is pretty solid. I think this games stands well on its own, I do not think you need to make a sequel to better it. 4/5, 9/10.

Sobriety Is Serious

"Cool"

date: March 23, 2008

I really think that this style of animation is well suited for the song you have choosen. I wouldn't call this South Park style, because you have different looks for different elements in the flash. I think that the flow is perfect. It isn't too flashy (most of the time too flashy ruins these types of entries). It isn't flash genius say like Brackenwood, but that wasn't the goal. Some stuff that could use improvement maybe could be the background selection. Your background colors and foreground colors are super similar, so it kind comes off more like a series of pictures. If you were to use contrasting colors, or even shades, it might come off more third dimensional, making your entry better. All in all, not bad at all.

Thanks for the detailed review. I see what you mean, and something about this song felt right, so i'm glad I had the patience to finish this 40 second ballbuster.

"Good Flash"

submission: -Guitar-Zero-
date: March 22, 2008

The Good: The graphics suited the story. The sound effects are well cued and placed correctly. The plotline is potentially humurous.

The Bad: A few scenes lingered too long. I suppose they were fillers, but they did not help to add anything in the plot line. Yes, the ground cracks open and the earth shakes, but it isnt really apperent. The timing was really slow. If you had spent about three quarters of the total time from beginning to end, maybe it could have been sharper, quicker and ultimately funnier.

Just my two cents, really good flash though.

"Great Concept-Mediocre Execution"

submission: Ongaku
date: March 20, 2008

This is such a great concept and it is pulled off really well! It is a great twist (to paint the music) to a sometimes very one dimensional game. And it adds more complexity and dexterity with the W S keys. The key flaw, however, as with a majority of other rhythm games is that the arrows do not align correctly with the musical beat. There is a considerable amount of drag from when the beat occurs and when the note is pressed. This occurs even more as the arrows start to clutter the screen. Finding a fix to this issue will make your game solid. You get a 5 submission rating, but I wish I can give a 10 to you, I really do. Its such a great concept.

Deluxe Pool

"Smooth Game"

submission: Deluxe Pool
date: March 20, 2008

I like the style of the game and the physics are pretty realistics. Some additional features can be some form of off center shooting for jumping or curving balls. I think that would really up the game play. One problem, I think, is that the cue moves way too much with the slightest mouse movement. Maybe an adjustment in sensitivity can help that.

The Rise of a Knight

"Overdone"

date: March 18, 2008

Everything looked and sounded great. The gameplay however is way over done. This isnt something new; which is okay. However, that game is super linear and whats annoying is that there are no range weapons that you can utilize. Everytime I got hit, even if I had jumped over the enemy. I was back on the ground incapacitated for too long. Nothing super new and unique about this game.

Author's Response:

Im glad you liked the art. I worked hard on the atmosphere of this game, as well as the combat. Im sorry you didnt like the combat, this game was a big learning process for me on how to do combat scenarios in sidescrollers. Okay, well, thanks for the review, Im sorry this did not entertain you at all.
Oh well, you cant please them all...

"No Real Plot"

submission: James Blond 006.9
date: February 24, 2008

A few chuckles here and there; maybe a smirk or two. I would say that you need to work on the comedic timing. Something thats not really funny can become really funny if you time things right. Another way to put it, would be to create a better flow between events. The good things are that the animation is a lot better than what I have seen in these types of parodies. The sound was great and the alterations were amusing.

- Music in Motion -

"Old School Gaming New Presentation"

date: February 19, 2008

This game takes the gaming ideas from some old games, but throws in a musical twist. The gameplay is nicely done and it is very original. So points on originality, incorporation of music to gameplay, and interactivity. I really can't think of too much that is wrong with it other than a few possible tweaks here and there. Like, making the jumps more controlled and not having the screen shift when you jump, so that you can plan out your next move. Solid Game, though.
